about....

Kate Schuman is a Washington State native, and makes her home in Friday Harbor, in the beautiful San Juan Islands of northwest Washington. She finds the setting ideal for songwriting; quiet, slightly remote, and yet full of the life, love, and intrigue that inspire the imagination.

"You only go 'round once" is Kate's first solo album, preceded in 1995 by a duet album titled "Cowboy Blue," recorded with fellow islander Pat Gislason.

All songs on this debut CD are written by Kate, and range from country ballads to R & B, with a little jazz thrown in for the stretch. The music is solidly performed by studio musicians in Nashville. Her lyrics are loaded with genuine emotion, from grief to humility to sibling affection, and she often uses humor to make a point. Kate says, "None of these songs are about me, really, or anyone I know. They may start out with an idea from someone or something that's happened to someone, but then they get much broader, less personal. I like that, because then more people can call a song theirs. Of course, any royalties will still be mine!"
